UC Davis battles UC Irvine to 1-1 tie

The past seven times No.8UC Davis and No.20UC Irvine have gotten together on the soccer field,the game has either ended in a tie or a one-goal differential. Saturday was no different. In a game that UC Irvine needed badly to stay in the top half of the Big West Conference standings,the teams battled hard to their second1-1tie of the season at Aggie Soccer Stadium.

Proposed plan for UCD research site cleanup faces some public concern

The former Laboratory for Energy-Related Health Research at UC Davis has been a site of controversy for several years with regards to the potential contamination left in the soil on site. Government officials presented a proposed final cleanup plan for the site at a public meeting Thursday.

Prop 12 would fund housing loans for veterans

Proposition12,also known as the Veterans‘ Bond Act of2008,will appear on the ballot on Nov.4.Approval of the proposition provides for a bond issue of$900million to provide loans to California veterans to purchase farms and homes. Since1921,the voters have approved a total of about$8.4billion to finance the veterans‘ farm and home purchase program,also known as Cal-Vet.As of July2008,there was about$102million left to support new loans.

Wednesday is the last day to apply for the Middle Eastern and South Asian (MESA) leadership retreat Nov.14to16atSly Park Center – or for what organizers say will be “the most amazing experience you won’t ever forget.” The second annual retreat is hosted by the Cross Cultural Center and sponsored by a variety of campus organizations.Last year approximately40students and faculty attended.This year,they expect up to65participants – not all of which will be students in the MESA program.

Long Beach State’s 1988 national championship-winning women’s volleyball team – a team that featured two-time Olympic gold medalist Misty May-Treanor – was honored in front of 1,694 fans at the Walter Pyramid on Friday night. When the current squad took the court, they played like a dream team, as the 49ers (17-4, 6-2) knocked off the Aggies (10-12, 2-7) in three sets 25-15, 25-17, 25-15.
