UC Regents approve UC Davis’ School of Nursing

The Betty Irene Moore School of Nursing is set to take its place alongside UC Davis‘ Medical Center thanks to the approval given by the UC Board of Regents on Mar.19.Named in honor of the$100million philanthropic grant from the Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation,UC Davis is launching the school with hopes of developing proficient nurses– and leaders– in health care to provide patients with quality care,while becoming educated in advanced health.

Smoke shops won’t face extra scrutiny

The smoke has cleared in an argument over whether to crack down on smoke shops in Davis that sell what some say is drug paraphernalia. The Davis City Council decided earlier this month that the city should not pursue a possible ordinance restricting tobacco-related businesses.It was a3-2vote,with councilmembers Stephen Souza,Sue Greenwald and Lamar Heystek opposed to moving forward.
No. 24 UC Davis has strong showing at Duck Invitational

The UC Davis men’s golf team traveled to Eugene,Ore.for the Duck Invitational coming off a strong showing at the Fresno State Lexus Classic,where it finishedthird out of the20-team field. The Aggies stayed hot in Oregon,putting together an impressive final-round showing to post a fifth-place finish.

The UC Davis baseball teamknew the length of timeit took its staff of inexperienced pitchers to develop would determine how long it’d take for the club to contend this season. It also knew it’d be returning the heart of a lineup that led it to a NCAA Tournament berth last season,which,in theory,could provide enough offense to compete early on as the team bided time for its young arms to come along.

The Aggies entered the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Championships as the favorites,looking to defend their title from a season ago. Unfortunately for UC Davis,that wasn’t the case.The Aggies finished third with a score of191.425,losing to Alaska Anchorage (192.825) and rival Seattle Pacific (191.700).Host Air Force was fourth (191.050).

The UC Davis women’s lacrosse team spent its spring break on the eastern seaboard,battling three teams in four days. On Monday,the Aggies squared off in upstate New York against the Siena Saints,losing a12-10seesaw game.UC Davis then headed south to face Manhattan,dropping another close contest,14-10.

Four field eventers won a total of five events for UC Davis as the Aggies put forth a solid showing at their home debut,the Aggie Open,on Saturday. “Overall for the day,I think we got done what we wanted to get done,” said coach Deanne Vochatzer. “We had some highlights in the field events,specifically the lady triple jumpers.To have two women over39” again and our little freshman heptathlete jump37‘8was exciting.“
