For my last column,I made a compilation of column ideas that didn’t make the cut.In other words,they weren’t good enough for their own feature-length column. A girl’s worst insult Girls are insulted by many,many things,but the insult I would like to focus on is “slut.” According to Urban Dictionary, “slut,” meansa dirty,nasty promiscuous woman that no one would even touch.

I was determined not to write a raging cheesefest of a final column,but in the interest of bidding you fine people adieu,some failbloggage may have gone down.The least I can do is promise that you will not be exposed to any inspirational Eleanor Roosevelt quotes.Only time will tell if I‘ll look back on this column with pride or disgust.The years will age and perhaps even mature me a little,but my intuition tells me that when I‘m old and decrepit,that pervy ex-Catholic schoolgirl who grew up listening to Howard Stern over the breakfast table will continue to live on.

Operation DeGeneres

On May16,First Lady Michelle Obama delivered a commencement speech at UC Merced.After noticing the campuswide effort that motivated the first lady to speak,two UC Davis students were inspired to get a different inspirational woman to speak at UCD. Operation DeGeneres is a movement on campus with the main purposeof wooing Ellen DeGeneres to the UCD campus to speak.Many of those behind the project believe DeGeneres‘ appearancewould be a great way to attract more attention to the often-overlooked UC Davis.

Alternative rock music listeners will have to go somewhere else to get their radio fix as KWOD106.5FM “Everything Alternative” shut down after18years on the dial.At9a.m.on May22,KWOD played their last song – “Short Skirt Long Jacket” by Cake – and switched over to KBZC106.5FM “The Buzz“,a station set to play exclusively90s music.

This Friday and Saturday at7:30p.m.,the Integrated Studies8B:Playing Shakespeare class will perform Shakespeare’sCymbeline in Wyatt Theatre.The event is sponsored by the University Writing Programand the performance is free. The Playing Shakespeare class is offered every spring quarter and is taught by Dr.Eric Schroeder.Schroeder is known for wanting to study and perform each of Shakespeare’s plays in the class first,before repeating any.AsCymbeline is not one of Shakespeare’s most popular plays,this production will be full of surprises.
