Nov. 1 marks the deadline for students, faculty and staff to change their Kerberos passwords. After that they will be forced to switch from their current eight-character password to a passphrase with a minimum 12 characters.

A new study by Stephen Kowalczykowski, a professor of microbiology at UC Davis, shows how DNA is separated like a magician’s trick with interlocking rings. On a daily basis radiation, chemicals and normal cellular processes constantly damage DNA. When chromosomes repair themselves they become interlocked.

Two things, though: There is no national message and “lackluster” comes to mind as a description of their ground game.

Last Friday Chancellor Linda Katehi publicly launched The Campaign for UC Davis at the Mondavi Center for performing arts, aiming to raise one billion dollars in philanthropic support from 100,000 donors by 2014.
