Who to watch: Brett Morgan has edged his way to the top of the Aggie batting order.
Morgan started the year in the eight hole, but has since moved up to leadoff.
With his consistency, he may just stay there.
The outfielder out of Tracy, Calif. has registered at least one hit in the last eight games, dating back to Feb. 22.
Morgan also leads the team with five doubles and a .370 batting average on the year.
Did you know? In UC Davis’ two wins this year, it has held its opponents to two runs or less.
Preview: After their sixth consecutive loss Tuesday afternoon, the Aggies look forward to the Jack Gifford Memorial Tournament to snap the slump.
The losing streak continued in a mid-week loss to Nevada that saw UC Davis leave seven runners on base.
“The one glaring weakness is our offense,” said coach Rex Peters. “We have to figure out ways to get on base, get some timely hits and score runs.”
With the Wolf Pack at a 2-0 advantage in the bottom of the fourth inning, Aggie Scott Lyman reached base on an error. One out later, Lyman scored on a base hit by first baseman Eric Johnson to cut the deficit in half.
Johnson accounted for the Aggies’ only other run when his sixth-inning double drove in Paul Politi to tie the game.
Unfortunately for UC Davis, Nevada responded in the top of the seventh with a solo shot to snag the 3-2 victory.
Aggie lefty Nathan Slater was charged for the loss, although he struck out three of the seven batters he faced in his two innings of work.
Next up, UC Davis will play Utah in the first game of the Jack Gifford Memorial Tournament, co-hosted by the Spartans and Broncos. The first pitch will be at 6 p.m.
During spring break, the Aggies will also host the No. 17 Stanford Cardinal before entering a series against the Spartans.
