Summer has just ended but its memories shall always remain. Yes, it was only three short months but it was three short months during which every day felt like a Saturday. I spent most of my days just listening to music, reading non-required books, and saturating my brain with the influx of movies released during the summer season.

You may have seen her performing at the MTV Music Awards in a bedazzled cast, or you’ve heard her song “Price Tag (feat. B.o.B)” on the radio this summer. Jessie J continues to get stuck in your head with her album Who You Are. Although it came out in April, this album was the perfect summer playlist for fans of British music, strong vocal ability and relatable lyrics. Who You Are stands as one of the few albums that I can listen to in full without skipping songs, with “Who’s Laughing Now”, “Do It Like a Dude” and “Who You Are” on repeat.

The best movie I saw this summer was The Help, starring Emma Stone and Viola Davis. This movie had the audacity to lure me into the theater under the false pretenses of being a simple, dated chick flick. Once there, it proved to be an academy award-worthy, compelling film. It really should win every academy award, including a tie for all four best actresses.

The days of paperback writers may soon give way to e-book writers. Culpepper Books and the Davis branch of Borders Books, Music and Cafe closed up shop this summer. Local bookstore owners said the closures seem to be on par with the trend away from reading paper versions of books to online or computer based reading.

My favorite book of the summer was Sisterhood Everlasting, the fifth book in the Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants series. It jumps ahead 10 years so the characters are a lot older, so it was different than the other books. Although it wasn’t as good as the last four books, I still enjoyed it.
