Honorable mention: Anna Schumaker

When coach John Lavallee recruited Anna Shumaker from Alameda High School to join his women’s gymnastics squad, he could not have known the crucial role she would play for the Aggies in her first season.

The 5-foot-4 freshman competed on the vault, uneven parallel bars and balance beam this season. She consistently improved her technique and her scores as she got acclimated to collegiate competition.

In a duel against California this season, Shumaker won both the vault and uneven bars. With those wins, Schumaker helped the Aggies trample the Golden Bears and achieve their highest score of the season at 194.050.

Shumaker’s season best scores include 9.800 on vault, 9.800 on bars and 9.775 on beam.

The exercise biology major will compete in the NCAA Regionals this Saturday for her solid season performances on the vault.
