U.S. premiere of ‘Nights at the Circus’ to take place at UC Davis

The freaky, fantastical world of Nights at the Circus, originally a novel by Angela Carter, will be brought to life for the first time in the U.S. tonight at the UC Davis Wyatt Pavilion Theatre at 8 p.m. Performances will continue through Sunday. Nights at the Circus is directed by UC Davis Master of Fine Arts Candidate Patricia Miller, adapted for the stage by Emma Rice & Tom Morris and originally premiered in London in 2006.

Finals are on our heels, chasing us into misery. I am stressed, you are stressed. We are practically biting each other’s heads off because of all this stress. So let’s face it: we all need a little bit of TLC – both the physical kind and the musical kind. Stress is building in my shoulders, turning my muscle to stone, but all my friends are too busy to give me a full-blown massage for tension relief. My heartbeat won’t seem to slow down on its own, so I thought maybe some mid-tempo, mid-90s slow jams would do the trick.

Students hold demonstration of Palestine conflict

Students for Justice in Palestine held a die-in Wednesday at noon on the Quad as a response to the recent five-day Israeli military siege in the Gaza Strip. As 23 students lay down on the pavement, SJP president spoke about what he called the New Holocaust. Our primary goal is to raise awareness of what’s going on in the Gaza Strip, said Nawal Wahhab, junior biological psychology major.

Public planning workshop kicks off transportation renovation

When riding through a round-a-bout during rush hour it’s clear that UC Davis is a campus unlike any other. With more bikes in the city than cars, planners must raise their standards for facilities. For this reason the UC Davis Office of Resource Management and Planning began plans to renovate the bike paths, transit routes, round-a-bouts and sidewalks in Tuesday’s UC Davis Bikeway and Transit Planning Public Workshop.

Movement meets art with Shen Wei Dance Arts

East meets West and movement meets art at the Mondavi Center. As part of the Dance Series, the Mondavi will present Re- (Part One) and Folding, two pieces from contemporary dance company Shen Wei Dance Arts. The company will perform the pieces tomorrow at 8 p.m. at Jackson Hall. Tickets can be purchased at the Mondavi Center ticket office or online at mondaviarts.org. Student tickets are $14 and general admission is $37. A post-performance question-and-answer session will be offered with choreographer and company founder Shen Wei.

Health disparity subject of documentary, panel discussion

Ever wonder if your place in society is affecting your health? The relationship between social class and health will be the topic of a documentary preview screening and panel discussion on campus tonight. The documentary, directed by Larry Adelman, is titled Unnatural Causes: Is Inequality Making Us Sick? It focuses on the disparity in health between the working class and the upper class. The documentary screening and panel discussion will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. in 180 Medical Science Building 1C. The screening is free and open to the public, although attendance for the entire conference is $20 for students.

In response to Rob Olson’s Feb. 21 column “The condompushers” we would like to clarify the purpose of our efforts toincrease access to condoms for sexually active students. This year,in honor of National Condom Week, we at Health Education andPromotion, hosted our third annual Ask Me For a Condom (AMFC) days. Marketing materials mentioned the availability of condoms if you or a friend is sexually active and as the name of the campaign implies, students have to ask to receive a condom.
