Men’s tennis sweeps two-match weekend homestand
SportsMarch 11, 2008
The UC Davis men’s tennis team demonstrated over the weekend that wins can come in multiple fashions. The Aggies first bulldozed Swarthmore in Saturday’s matchup and was later pushed to their limits in Sunday’s close win over Sonoma State.
Letter from the editor
OpinionMarch 11, 2008
Two years ago, The California Aggie signed a contract with College Publisher – a national online college newspaper content manager – to host The Aggie’s website. This past month, that agreement expired, and we have decided not to renew The Aggie’s contract with College Publisher. Instead, we are proud to present a new Aggie website developed by the student workers of the ASUCD unit Creative Media.
A fighter’s fighting spirit
OpinionMarch 11, 2008
Hillary Clinton’s rise, fall and rise again moments are extraordinary in American politics. Like a bright star that eclipses other stars, she has successfully outshined her nemesis Barack Obama who was expected to clinch the fiercely fought Democratic contest after Mar. 4. But unlike a star, Clinton shines the brightest when fighting desperately for survival.
Fact sheet
OpinionMarch 11, 2008
I’ve always held the belief that the process of making decisions is really very simple. Most of the time, you already know what’s right and wrong, and the only real decision that you need to make that day is whether or not you’re feeling naughty. If there is any validity to this time-tested theory (and I assure you, it’s quite possible that there is not), then the facts released at last week’s UC Day show that the legislative officials responsible for the operations of the UC system have a long history of soiling the proverbial bed.
Party pooper
OpinionMarch 11, 2008
Once finals are over, you crazy kids are going to go buck wild come this spring break. Little do you minions know, Ms. Lynn Loo La over here has attended her fair share of parties too (during her time off from saving the world, one poorly named Vietnamese business district at a time). Unfortunately, I find that one out of 10 college parties end in lameness due to some “incident” that occurs. So if you’re asking yourself, “Gee whiz Lynn, how can I ruin everyone’s time at a decent party?” Have no fear; I’ve done the work for you.
Five Years in Iraq: Part One
FeaturesMarch 11, 2008
This March marks the fifth anniversary of the initial stage of Operation Iraqi Freedom. While UC Davis lies a world away from Iraq, the events occurring overseas can be felt close to home. In the first half of this two-part series, UC Davis professor of military science Stephen Heringer’s story is told.
Living wage policy proposed for Davis city employees
City NewsMarch 11, 2008
City employees may soon be cashing in on larger paychecks or benefit packages. The Davis City Council is currently waiting on research in order to implement a standard living wage for the city. The city’s neglect of having a standard living wage policy has been an issue Councilmember Lamar Heystek has been persistent on addressing since 2006 when he was first elected to City Council.
State budget cuts
OpinionMarch 11, 2008
The governor-proposed cuts to the University of California system as a result of an impending state deficit will inescapably reduce the quality of its campuses. Addressing a potential $417 million shortfall is not easy and must be dealt with in a variety of ways.
UC Davis nearly tops No. 1 Arizona State
SportsMarch 11, 2008
This weekend, the UC Davis softball team was close to experiencing the highest of highs: dethroning the No. 1 team in the nation. The Aggies came up short but gained confidence that they could hang with the top softball teams. They went on to win three out of the next four contests at the highly competitive Diamond Devil Invitational this weekend.
Bullpen and defensive woes plague Aggies
SportsMarch 11, 2008
After reaching a high of a four-game sweep of Utah the week before, the Aggies’ (7-7) bullpen and defense failed them this past week as they dropped four straight contests before salvaging a Causeway Classic victory. In the four losses, UC Davis relievers allowed 17 runs in 12 innings, while the Aggie defense committed 13 errors.

Salad Cosmo USA Corp. of Dixon, Calif., has recalled Salad Cosmo Alfalfa Sprouts throughout California and Washington, and Always Fresh and Alfa One packaged by J.H. Davis family sparks effort for new music building
Campus NewsMarch 11, 2008
The long-awaited recital hall that the UC Davis department of music has been sorely lacking is finally under way thanks to a significant donation from a local family. Announced on Sunday at the annual performance of the combined UC Davis Symphony Orchestra, Chorus, and Alumni Chorus, the $1 million gift from Grace and Grant Noda and their adult daughters – Kathy Miura and Tanya Yan – is the largest in the department of music’s history. It will go entirely toward construction of a 400-seat facility.
