Governor proposes additional $65.5 million in UC budget cuts

Watch out UC – the budget cuts aren’t over yet. Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger announced a plan last week to slash$132million in funding for higher education in the current fiscal year. The$132million includes$65.5million in cuts to the University of California system and$66.3million to the California State University system.

Men’s basketball UC Davis defeated Notre Dame de Namur,69-36,in an exhibition at the Pavilion on Friday.Joe Harden led the Aggies with a game-high15points and12rebounds.It was the sophomore’s second double-double in as many exhibitions as the Aggies closed out their preseason schedule. UCD sees record research funding last year

Despite a faltering national economy,UCD has set a new record in research funding for the2007-2008fiscal year that ended on June30,receiving a total of$586,181,880. “The figure represents an increase of$54million or10percent over the previous year’s figure,” said Barry Klein,vicechancellor forresearch in the Office of Research at UCD in an e-mail interview.

The future is looking rather dry forCalifornia. The state’s Department of Water Resources announced last week that it was expecting2009to be an exceptionally dry year.DWR officials told customers that under current conditions,they would only be able tomeet15percent of water needs.
