Club Hoppin’: Cooking Club

When Jackie Stone decided to become a vegetarian at the tender age of12,she didn’t have a lot of cooking experience to rely on. “My first year or so [as a vegetarian],I lived off of cereal,quesadillas and veggie burgers,” she said. After years of practice,Stone gradually increased her repertoire of recipes,looking for new kinds of vegetables and protein substitutes that could be incorporated into healthy,easy-to-make meals.Stone not only adapted the vegetarian lifestyle,but she fell in love with cooking.

ASUCD’s My Student Government channel comes online

UC Davis students now have easier access to their student leaders with the introduction of a new channel on the MyUCDavis website today. The new channel,called My Student Government (MSG),will appear on the bottom left-hand corner of all undergraduate homepages and will work similarly to other channels like My Student Housing.

Don’t be shocked when all the Coffee House employees are wearing tie-dye on Monday – it’s just how the Coffee House is celebrating its40thbirthday. “People might be a little freaked out,when they look up at the cashier,” said special events intern Cecilia Landholt,who was responsible for much of the planning. “But we’re just getting the word out about our40th anniversary and sending a big thank you to all of our customers and employees.”

Saturday was the day for the Aggies to learn how to race on the national stage.While there,they met – and beat – teams from all over the country. Finishing23rd in the “White” race,the Aggies beat teams such as Texas,Colorado State andCincinnati.Although they raced in the separate “Blue” race,the Aggies ran a much faster team-time than Big West Conference members UC Irvine and UC Riverside.

Prop 4 would affect parent involvement in abortion decisions

The battle betweenabortion rightsandanti-abortionis back on the California ballot. Proposition4would require a doctor to notify at least one parent before performinganabortion for minors.The pregnant teenager can choose to notify certain adult relatives instead of a parent,but the law would require the doctor to report the parent to law enforcement or Child Protective Services.

SATURDAY Bike bandit A UC Davis police officer noticed a suspicious pickup truck driving on campus on Saturday night with a truck bed full of bicycles.The officer made a traffic stop on the vehicle and determined that the bikes had recently been stolen on campus. The driver,a resident of Hercules,was arrested and booked at the Yolo County Jail on charges of grand theft,possession of stolen property,possession of burglary tools and violation of probation. The UC Davis Police Department has stepped up enforcement in response to bike theft on campus,including plainclothes officers patrolling on campus,according to a press release.Prior to this weekend’s arrest,there have been twice as many reports of bike theft this year as there were last year.UCDPD asks the community to report any suspicious activity on campus.
