Editorial: Target opening

OpinionOctober 8, 2009
The debate over the last few years about allowing a Target store to open in Davis has been particularly illustrative of what makes Davis a great college town. While the dispute was contentious and sometimes ugly, the fact that it even existed is something Davisites should be proud of.It’s rare, and almost unheard of,for a small town to show opposition to a sales tax cash cow like Target setting up shop within its boundaries.

As any musician should know, it’s hard to find an artist that doesn’t “steal,” or better said, “borrow,” from someone else.

Inside a smoky San Francisco lounge, several avant-garde poets and artists gather together over jazz music to share a cup of coffee.Sipping their caffeine, they brought along something else more important to share – their passions and creativity.Having turned their backs on the mainstream media wanting to profit off of their craft, these rebels clutched onto their expressionism and changed20th century American culture forever, cementing their place in history.
