On Oct. 7, a crash occurred which resulted in a car falling into the Willow Slough Bypass in rural Davis. The crash was reported by a passerby in the morning that same day around 7:30 a.m.
In a statement to The Aggie, Rodney Fitzhugh of the California Highway Patrol (CHP) spoke on the first of two incidents which occurred that day.
“Based on a preliminary investigation, a silver Jeep, occupied solely by the driver, was traveling northbound on County Road 105 at County Road 29,” Fitzhugh said. “The crash occurred when the driver traveled from the roadway where the Jeep collided with a metal guardrail. The Jeep continued traveling in a northerly direction and came to rest in the Willow Slough Bypass.”
Fitzhugh went on to speak about the ensuing investigation after the crash.
“The driver of the Jeep succumbed to the injuries sustained in the crash at the scene,” Fitzhugh said. “At this time, it is unknown if alcohol or drugs are a factor in the crash.”
Another crash occurred on the same day around 8 p.m., involving a Toyota Tundra broadsiding a Nissan Altima at the intersection of Russell Boulevard and County Road 97D. Both members of the Nissan Altima sustained major injuries, with one of the occupants eventually being declared dead at the scene.
