On Oct. 16. in Solano County, a stabbing occurred at the corn maze of Cool Patch Pumpkins, a family-run farm that operates in Dixon and is home to the largest corn maze in California.
Deputies were notified of an altercation around 9:15 p.m. inside the corn maze, according to USA Today. Once they arrived, they searched the corn maze and found two victims who had suffered stab wounds, and were then transported to a local hospital for injuries. Deputies later took a 28-year-old Sacramento man into custody for the stabbing.
The incident resulted from a fight that eventually escalated in one of the Halloween attractions. In a statement, Cool Patch Pumpkins said the incident would not affect business.
“Cool Patch Pumpkins remains open for the season,” the statement reads. “There was an incident in our corn maze on October 16 that was quickly resolved by Solano County Sheriff. There is no current public safety threat.”
Chloe Chun, a second-year political science major, was at the corn maze with friends when the stabbing occurred and detailed her experience.
“As we were slipping out of the pumpkin patch area, we see all these police cars coming in,” Chun said. “We didn't even know the stabbing happened until afterwards. When we saw it on the news, we're like, ‘Oh wow!’ [...] Thank goodness something didn’t happen to us.”
Maya Yoo, a third-year design major who was also at the corn maze when the stabbing occurred, shared her view of the incident.
“Me and my friends were just kind of shocked that it happened,” Yoo said. “We're all just glad that we're safe and glad that we didn't see anything, and just praying for all the people [who] were part of it.”
There are currently no other updates on the incident, with Cool Patch Pumpkins having now closed for the season on Oct. 31, but planning to return next fall.
