A high-speed car chase was reported by Sacramento Police around 8:50 p.m. on Thursday night, May 14. The pursuit began in Sacramento where the vehicle entered I-5 before transitioning to Westbound Highway 50, approaching Davis.
The pursuit ended with a collision between the suspected vehicle and an unrelated vehicle near Covell Boulevard and Highway 113 in Davis. The driver then attempted to flee on foot, where he was arrested at 9:45 p.m. by officers in the Davis Police Department.
Law enforcement helicopters circled overhead at the scene, and authorities notified residents to shelter in their homes.
Allison Smith, the Sacramento police spokesperson, told Public Safety News that police officers attempted to stop a vehicle around 8:45 p.m. The pre-planned operation happened in the area of Sacramento’s Broadway and 3rd Street. The operation turned into a pursuit when the driver fled the area.
Davis Police Lieutenant John Evans told The Davis Enterprise about the notification they received from the Sacramento authorities. He was told “that the subject fleeing had a felony warrant and was possibly armed.”
Initial reports stated that two people were involved, but the California Highway Patrol confirmed that the incident only involved one person, who was detained the previous night.
