Men’s Golf

The Aggies finished the first day in the Big West Championship tied for third place alongside UC San Diego (UCSD). Both the Aggies and the Tritons were three over par (+3) across their five players. Zhenxian Zhang, a first-year cinema and digital media major, started the Aggies off strong by finishing his 18-hole course with an overall score of three under par (-3). Zhang is tied for second place for players across all 10 schools participating in the championship. The following golfers for the Aggies tried to follow in Zhang’s lead, but could not equalize. Curtis Da Silva, a third-year political science major, golfed second for the Aggies and brought an on-par score. The Aggies continue to round two of the Big West Championship.
Baseball
Who: UC Davis vs. California State University, Fullerton
Where: Fullerton, Calif. (away)
When: 5/1 and 5/2
Score: 7-6, 11-5, 6-2, overall 3-0
Starting the weekend strong, the UC Davis men’s baseball team secured a 3-0 series victory over California State University, Fullerton. In the first game of the weekend, the Aggies had a tough start with a score of 1-5 in the seventh inning. However, they were able to make a comeback from the four point deficit and secure a 7-6 win over Fullerton. The next day, the Aggies had the second game of the series, where they came out fighting. Ethan Felix, a recent UC Davis alumnus, secured two home runs in the match to push the Aggies to a 11-5 win over Fullerton. In the last game of the series, the Aggies were able to secure yet another win 6-2. The Aggies won every series game of the weekend.
Track and Field
Who: UC Davis vs. Payton Jordan Invitational
Where: Stanford, Calif. (away)

Score: 6 podium finishes
The Aggies sent off 10 players to compete in the Payton Jordan Invitational after hosting the Causeway Classic. There were a total of five events: shot put, discus, pole vault, hammer and 400-meter intermediate hurdles. Each event had competitions for both men and women, excluding the hammer throw in which just the women participated. Jake Joerger, a second-year managerial economics major, secured first place for the Aggies in the men’s shot put with a distance of 16.38 meters. Kathir Balakrishnan, a third-year human development major, finished in second place for the men’s 400-meter intermediate hurdle, with a running time of 53.75 seconds, setting a new personal record. The Aggies left the invite with six total podium finishes and multiple new personal records to conclude the regular season.
