ASUCD Sen. Ezra Rubin, a fourth-year classics and international relations double major, has resigned from his position on the student government’s main legislative body.

In a letter to ASUCD’s management team and the Senate obtained by The California Aggie, Rubin said that he was stepping down to pursue other job opportunities for the school year. He was originally set to term out of his position at the end of fall quarter.

“I am grateful to have served on the Senate table for five quarters, but the time has come for new leadership,” Rubin said in his letter. “I know that the future of ASUCD is in good hands, and I want to thank all of those who I have had the chance to collaborate with towards the betterment of our Association and our community.”

Rubin was first elected to the ASUCD Senate in spring 2024 as a first-year student. After terming out a year later, he successfully ran for a second term in fall 2025 as an independent candidate, while simultaneously studying abroad in Greece. His most recent campaign focused on improving funding for registered student organizations, streamlining housing resources and uplifting voices from across the student population.

During his time on the Senate Table, Rubin garnered a reputation for his knowledge of and strict adherence to ASUCD Bylaws. His resignation took effect Thursday, Sept. 24 — one week before the Senate’s first meeting of the academic year.

Rubin is the third of the six senators elected last fall to leave their position early. The other two are Jenna Younes, who graduated in spring, and Rosa Linda Martinez, a fourth-year sociology — organizational studies and community & regional development double major, who was elected to be ASUCD’s Internal Vice President for the 2026-27 school year.

Per ASUCD rules, an interim senator will be appointed to serve as Rubin’s replacement for the remainder of fall quarter. They will join Interim Sens. Genesis Arroyo, a second-year political science — public service major, and Arya Banerjee, a third-year science & technology studies and history double major. Both were confirmed in spring.

Rubin declined to comment further on his resignation when asked.
