Caught in the Act A junior was referred to Student Judicial Affairs for using unauthorized material during an exam.The teaching assistant noticed that the student was strangely positioning her calculator as if she were reading the screen.When the teaching assistant confronted the student she discovered that the student’s calculator did in fact contain formulas and definitions.The student admitted the dishonesty and agreed to disciplinary probation and10hours of community service.
Three UC Davis professors receive Guggenheim fellowships

Two UC Davis professors and a professor emeritus have been awarded prestigious Guggenheim fellowships this year,enabling them to pursue extensive research in their respective fields. Francis Dolan,a professor of English,ArtyomKopp,a professor of evolution and ecology,and Lynn Hershman Leeson,professor emeritus of technocultural studies are among180artists,scholars and scientists from around the United States and Canada to receive grants from the Guggenheim Foundation.
Students unable to obtain refunds for cancelled concert

Approximately400students and community members who bought tickets to last weekend’s E-40rap concert at UC Davis fraternity Theta Xi have been unable to refund their tickets,which cost at least$20each. The concert was cancelled for undisclosed reasons.
Bicycle officer aims to make campus grounds safer

Worm composting workshop to be held Saturday

The early bird gets the worm – or rather,in the case of this Saturday’s worm composting workshop,an entire pound of worms. Project Compost will host their spring worm-composting workshop at11a.m.near the tri co-ops,where attendants will receive a free bin with live worms.The worms are in limited supply,so early or on-time arrival will ensure a bin,organizers said.

Controversial ASUCD election case dismissed

The ASUCD Court unanimously dismisseda complaint questioning the fairness of winter quarter’s ASUCD elections during a pre-hearingon Wednesday. Case46,between plaintiff Chris Ambriz and the ASUCD Elections Committee,centered on a voting malfunction in which the website went down for three and half hours during the election.The Elections Committee extended the voting period by an equal amount of time on Feb.20,the last day of the election.
New vineyard planted on UC Davis campus

Wine making has a new home at UC Davis after twelve acres of vineyard were planted next to the Robert Mondavi Institute of Wine and Food Science on Wednesday. The teaching vineyard will be used by undergraduate and graduate students in the viticulture and enology department to help familiarize them with the process of grape harvesting from beginning to end and to workwith a vineyard in each season.

In theApr.21issue of The California Aggie,the article “Budget cuts affect Spanish grad students” stated that graduate students are facing an increased workload with less funding.This point should be clarified to explain that it refers to their scholastic workload and not their teaching workload.Graduate students have less time to complete their degrees,but have not seen an increase in their teaching duties.The Aggie regrets the error.
UCD signs agreement with state public health department

UC Davis is teaming up with the California Department of Public Health in an effort to better encourage public health practice and education within the state.The university signed a no-cost,four-yearagreement with state public health officials earlier this month in what they hope will be a mutually beneficial relationship.
