Live from the Chemistry Building at UC Davis, “chemagicians” wowed the audience with their bag of tricks this Picnic Day. UC Davis students enthralled the audience with the power of chemistry via shows like “Brian and Eric’s Shopping Experience” – mimicking popular television networks such as the Discovery Channel and the Food Network. This30-minute show proved that science can be really “cool” by demonstrating various chemical reactions.Did you know that bubbles are a fire hazard? Yes,bubbles.
Group increases tax on ASUCD credit card purchases

Some ASUCD members are not happy with thefive cent tax increase to all ASUCD commercial units‘ credit card transactions,excluding Sodexho. The fee would charge every ASUCD commercial unit an extra4.56cents for all plastic credit card transactions,including theASUCDCoffee House,the UC Davis Bookstore,Campus Copies and the Aggie Student Store.

Despite the85-degree heat,Picnic Day goers could still hit the slopes on Hutchison Field. The Alpine Ski and Snowboard club brought approximately10tons of snow in fromLake Tahoe to create a100-footlong,snow covered slope for sledding.

UC Davis Cancer Center bomb threat resolved Operations at the UC Davis Cancer Center have returned to normal after a bomb threat earlier this week. An unidentified man called the Cancer Center in Sacramento at 8:45 a.m. on Monday indicating there was a bomb in the facility and demanding $10,000. Police immediately evacuated 150 people from the building including 20 patients who were relocated to other facilities on the Health Center campus. Patients with appointments later in the day were rescheduled.

Take two Afirst-yearwas referred to SJA for altering an exam and submitting it for re-grading.The TA noticed the discrepancy because the student’s answer did not show enough work to have logically reached the correct solution she had added.The student admitted that she had changed the answer to the question on the MAT16B midterm exam and had then submitted it for re-grading.As a result,she agreed to accept the disciplinary sanctions of deferred separation and10hours of community service.

Fire started on construction site of new Graduate School of Management

Two small fires broke out at the Graduate School of Management and Conference Center construction site on Apr.4, and were contained shortly after by the UC Davis Fire Department. The fires were reported by several passer-bys near the Mondavi Center, at 2:56 p.m. and extinguished by 4 p.m. Officials say the fires were started deliberately, however the cause is still being investigated.
UC Davis to guarantee transfer housing for 2009-2010 academic year

Housing will be guaranteed for transfers entering UC Davis in fall2009– a move that puts the school on par with the other nine University of California campuses. Transfer students under the age of24may choose to live in the residency halls,or in a single-occupancy apartment space leased by UC Davis Student Housing,while transfer students24years of age and older will be offered a single occupancy apartment space.
