Not In Violatio A student was referred for copying during an exam. The student correctly answered multiple-choice questions on recordings played before the student arrived at the exam. The SJA officer determined that there was not enough evidence to find the student in violation, but due to concerns about the incident, the student received an Administrative Notice regarding UC Davis policies on copying exams. An administrative notice is not a disciplinary sanction, but a formal notice of university policy.

Construction under way on Hyatt Place, UC Davis

UC Davis and partners recently broke ground on a $13 million project to construct a Hyatt Place just off Interstate-80, neighboring the Mondavi Center for the Performing Arts on the UC Davis campus. The 75-room, 49,000 square foot hotel is expected to be finished by 2010.

‘Recyclemania’ comes to Davis

Recyclemania, a nationwide competition among 100 universities, kicked off on Sunday, running until Mar. 27. During the competition universities strive to collect as much recyclables as they can during the allotted time period. The more a university collects, the higher they will be ranked.

UC regents cut freshman enrollment

The University of California Board of Regents voted last week to reduce next year‘s freshman enrollment bysixpercent– 2,300students– as a result of the continuederosion of state support. Regents say all applicants meeting the minimum GPA and test score requirements will still be guaranteed a spot in the system,although fewer will be admitted to their first and second choice campuses.

UWP to offer writing minor beginning fall 2009

Beginning in the fall of 2009, the University Writing Program will offer a 20-unit Expository Writing minor designed for students in every field of study who want to boost their writing skills and be better prepared for life in the professional world.

Reply-All A senior was referred to SJA for unauthorized collaboration.Intending to send her completed homework to a friend who was having trouble in the class,the student accidentally forwarded the homework to the entire class and professor.The student admitted dishonesty and accepted a censure and a writing assignment on unauthorized collaboration.

Shields Library continues to struggle

Once considered one of the top libraries in the UC system, Peter J. Shields Library has plummeted in ranking, funding and capability in recent years. Previously ranked as high in the American Research Library’s rankings as 24th in 1986, Davis sat at 60th at the end of 2008.
