In the Feb. 9 issue of The California Aggie, the graphic accompanying the article ” Union, library at odds over workload,” incorrectly depicts UC Davis and UC San Diego’s library expenditures for the 2006-2007 year. The two campuses’ total expenditures should have been shown to be $21,002, 377 and $28, 240, 980, respectively.

The librarians and support staff at Peter J.Shields Library continue to spar with the administration over workload and funding. Leaders of the librarians‘ union,UC-AFT Local2023,point to the decline in the numbers of both librarians and support staff over the last15years as evidence of strain.The decline,they note,correlates with UC Davis‘ drop in the Association of Research Libraries rankings,from35in1993-1994to58in2006-2007.

The Memorial Union may be getting a new addition to take over the East Conference Room – a U.S.Bank. Though no contract has yet been reached,the university has been in talks with ASUCD President Ivan Carrillo to try to reach a consensus.Carrillo hosted a townhallstylemeeting on Jan.26to inform students about the situation and hear ideas and concerns.Carrillo said roughly40students attended the meeting.

UC Davis hit a record high for the number of applications from high school seniors and transfer students for fall 2009, with a 5.4 percent increase compared to fall 2008.

Forget Halloween and Christmas.For200foster children,the most exciting holiday of the yearis two weeksin July spent at Cal Aggie Camp – a place that represents everything they know of comfort and home. “For me,camp is a place where people care,” said Sabrina Silva,a17-year-oldcamper who has been in the foster care system with her twin sister since they were toddlers.

Approximately20women gathered Friday afternoon to discuss ways to save the Gender Education program. After the2008-2009school year,the program will be cut if it is not put on the official Women’s Resources and Research Center budget – something that organizers are fighting to make happen.

Over70students and supporters gathered Tuesday afternoon by the Memorial Union to speak about the wall separating Palestine and Israel. The event was hosted by the Students for Justice in Palestine,with speaker Schachaf Palokow,from Anarchist Against the Wall– a human rights organization dedicated to supporting popular Palestinian resistance to the Israeli separation wall.

Students can experience a taste of the real world by showcasing research projects under the guidance of UC Davis faculty. The Undergraduate Research, Scholarship and Creative Activities Conference will be held on April 25, in Freeborn and Wellman Halls.

Multiple personalities A student was referred for having a friend answer questions inhis name using an RF “clicker.“ The student admitted to receiving unauthorized assistance on course work and agreed to Disciplinary Probation and10hours of community service.If a student is found in violation of any university policy while on disciplinary probation,he or she is likely to be removed from the university.

An empty state piggy bank leaves King Hall School of Law expansion and renovation at a standstill.Due to a tight state budget,the California Pooled Money Investment Board halted payments for state-funded capital projects on Dec.17.On Jan.9the campus suspended theKing Hallproject for90days.Contractor K.O.O.Construction will maintain the area during this period.
