After years of program refinements, Cesar Chavez Plaza finally got its warm welcome into the Davis community of housing complexes with a grand opening celebration on Saturday.

Solarize Davis, a “group deal” headed by Daniel Parrella, founder of Spearhead Solar, is ready to move into its proposal phase with 135 homeowners signed up.

On Saturday, drawing enthusiasts in Davis participated in the monthly Let’s Draw Davis! sketchcrawl. The event, which took place in and around Second and E Street, marked its one-year anniversary.

Mycle Brandy, a 60-year-old stroke survivor, passed through Davis Sunday on his “Walking Across America” mission to raise awareness about strokes. Brandy is currently traveling from San Diego to Seattle, WA for organizations such as the National Stroke Association.

On Thursday, Davis City Councilmember Dan Wolk announced his candidacy for the June 2012 city council election. He joined the council in February when former Mayor Don Saylor left to become Yolo County Supervisor.

The teen center may get a new home at the Davis Veterans’ Memorial Center after more than two years without an established location. On Oct. 4, the Davis City Council approved a feasibility study to address the need for an additional meeting space.

Kevin Gerard Seery, 42, died of asphyxiation in his College Square apartment at 945 J St. on Oct. 1. Davis police arrested James Elron Mings, 36, of Davis, on suspicion of murder. He is being held without bail at the Yolo County Jail.
