A public forum to discuss Picnic Day was held last Wednesday for the city, university and local community to discuss options to bring Picnic Day back to its roots. The meeting, prompted by the events of Picnic Day 2010, was held at the Davis Senior Center.

Over 50,000 residents of Yolo county swarmed the polls to vote on Nov. 2. Of that, 31,470 voters joined 53.4 percent of the state in voting Jerry Brown (D) into the governor’s office.

This year marks the 15th anniversary of the Davis chapter of Food Not Bombs, an organization dedicated to conserving food and promoting peace, human rights and an overall healthy environment.

In the midst of a recession, current foreclosure and unemployment rates show Davis to be in fairly strong economic health compared to its county and regional counterparts.

Davis Joint Unified School District (DJUSD) will not be extending their school year in the near future due to budget cuts. This is despite President Obama’s plan to extend the school year by one month.

This year, Isla Vista, a popular residential area for UCSB students and California’s most infamous Halloween destination, will be increasing its police force from the 20 officers present on the average weekend to 150 officers for the full Halloween weekend.

On Oct. 18, Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger appointed Daniel P. Maguire, 43, to a judgeship position in the Yolo County Superior Court. Maguire will be filling the position of retiring Judge Thomas E. Warriner.
