With finals fast approaching, professors and teaching assistants (TAs) are seeing an influx of students attending their office hours. However, not all students understand that there is a wrong and a right way of approaching office hours.

I was walking my bike to the Bike Barn to fill the tires with air when I noticed an old road bike leaning up against the air pump. I framed this shot in my head before grabbing my camera and snapping the photo. I was particularly drawn to the texture of the walls – the shapes created by the lines and the contrasting colors. When I chose the exposure settings, I wasn’t concerned with using a creative combination to garner a certain lighting effect. Instead, I used an ISO of 250 with an aperture of f/4.5 and a shutter speed of 1/3200. What makes this photo interesting is the composition rather than the use of an interesting combination of exposure settings. This illustrates one of the golden photographic truths – a good eye for composition is often more important than a knowledge of technical settings.

The UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine has had its ups and downs throughout its existence. From losing its accreditation to becoming one of the leading institutions in veterinary medicine, one man has been through it all – Dean Bennie Osburn. But like all good things, the dean’s 14-year tenure will be coming to an end as he will retire in the summer of 2011.

It’s hard to figure out when Barbara Nazarewicz, senior landscape architecture major, has time to sleep. Between her multiple landscaping projects and leadership positions it seems that Nazarewicz is always on the go.

For the majority of us, life takes on a series of stages in which high school is followed by college and then (hopefully) a job and (maybe) marriage. However, for some, life throws a few unexpected curve balls and that order gets a little mixed up.
