Laura Dickson, a UC Davis 2008 alumnaand a Fulbright Grant recipient, is going to Kenya in August to study the possible correlation of infection of the AIDS virus with the spread of malaria. Dickson, who graduated this month from UC Davis with a bachelor’s degree in biochemistry and molecular biology and a minor in global and international studies, will spend 10 months in the town of Kisimu in Western Kenya, located near Lake Victoria.

Whether it’s 60 degrees outside or 100, staying healthy and fit is both important and a challenge. For those rising up to it as the mercury does the same in Davis this summer, a wide range of opportunities await.

UC Davis seniors have used the last few months to prepare for their graduation day.

While some studentsmay enter the corporate world or go on to graduate school after college,others opt for adifferent journey.

Endings are bittersweet. At the close of every year, UC Davis seniors don a cap and gown, receive a diploma and put their years at the university behind them as they look to the future.

Zhongli Pan, a UC Davis food science professor was in Shaanxi Province, China on May 12 when he felt vibrations crawl up his body. Having overheard a discussion on earthquakes just a day earlier, Pan thought it was coincidental and ignored the movements.
