Let me start out by saying I have friends of all types of ethnic and religious backgrounds. Just because I disagree with them on either their political, cultural or religious beliefs does not mean we can’t find common ground on something. This is what makes the world a great place.

Last Wednesday, all those running for ASUCD Senate and the President/Vice President positions congregated in their suits, ties and pant suits for a little debate. They discussed casual issues such as financial aid, the budget cuts, underrepresented student groups and where the money of the student body is going.

I did the most cliché thing this Valentine’s Day. I saw the movie Valentine’s Day with my valentine. Don’t laugh. It was actually kind of cute. It made me think about the day known all over for its pink and red hearts.

I wore a T-shirt and shorts this past weekend. I don’t even remember the last time I wore a T-shirt and shorts. This only confirms to me that Punxsutawney Phil has lied again. Spring is a lot closer than he predicted. (Why do we use ground hogs to predict the weather anyway? They live in the ground. Why would they know anything?)

On Nov. 2, 1841, a scientist named Berger sent a sealed envelope to the Academy of Science in Paris. When those at the academy opened the envelope, they found documents describing an organism living in the earwax of a man. Berger was the first scientist to describe a parasitic mite called the follicle mite (genus Demodex).

So last week I spoke about some of the things that make Davis great, ranging from grown men beating each other with semi-erect pool noodles to Jusco’s tasty fried calamari. There’s always a great place in Davis to relax and just hang out.

Editor, A pro-Palestinian solidarity event took a sharp turn to show the ugly face of intolerance and racism at an event on Feb. 3. The event was organized by those who started the petition to boycott all Israeli products from the Davis Food Co-op.
