In his January State of the State address, Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger proposed legislation that would both require a minimum budget allocation of 10 percent for higher education and a ceiling of 7 percent on prison spending.

Last week, the Davis City Council voted to waive the overnight persons number cap on cold weather shelter facilities. The city set a capacity of the Interfaith Rotating Winter Shelter at 25 individuals, although it was increased to 30 during the extreme cold weather period.

It’s the bathroom, the restroom, the water closet, the loo, the john and the lavatory. (But they only call it the lavatory on airplanes. Believe you me, I’ll tamper with whatever the fuck I want to … including the free tampons they offer.)

Dysfunctional, gridlocked and partisan are all common descriptions of the California State Legislature. The intense fight over the budget along with the dragged out battle over water reform just highlighted the problems of the legislative body.

Season nine of “American Idol” premiered Tuesday night with its typical share of tear-inducing back-stories, quirky characters and – inevitably – horribly and hilariously awful “singers.” Now, after watching “American Idol” for the past seven years, nothing on the show can faze me anymore. I’ve seen it all with the safety of my remote control in hand.

Impressing freshmen has always been easy.

I’m impressed by the number of people in the media who think attacking UC student protesters will somehow solve the budget crisis.

Fees are going up because state funding is going down. Whichever way the money is going, at least UC Davis students are headed in the right direction – the capitol.

UC Davis lost student Richard Jung earlier this month in an unfortunate accident involving an allegedly drunk driver.

This past Saturday night – like every other Saturday night – I was in the library going over some of my favorite early medieval texts.

By far my favorite rush shirt on campus is one that reads “Characters Welcome.” Characters make the world an interesting place. They deserve to be recognized, even if they’re the kind we love to hate.
