You can tell a lot about a team by the way they respond to a loss. The Aggies did not get the start they were hoping for this season, but the way they bounced back showed true heart.

UC Davis opened the 2010 campaign on Saturday on the turf of Memorial Stadium in Berkeley to play Pac-10 cousin Cal.

The anticipation of a new season was present in Berkeley, Calif. last weekend as the Aggies’ men’s water polo team took on the Golden Bears.

UC Davis teams aimed at some of the best Pac-10 teams last weekend. While the men’s water polo and football team engaged California, the women’s soccer team took on both Oregon and Oregon State University as part of the University of Oregon Nike Tournament.

The UC Davis women’s volleyball team headed to the Beehive State hoping to come away with a victory. Unfortunately, the Aggies struggled in their first two games of the year to fall to 0-2 on the season.

Who to watch: Sophomore Lydia Brambila was named to the NorPac All-Tournament Team last season, and will be expected to be a key part of the Aggies success in 2010.

Who to watch: Redshirt freshman quarterback Randy Wright made his first appearance as the Aggies’ starting quarterback in Friday’s annual Blue and Gold scrimmage. He threw for 244 yards and three touchdowns.

It’s always great to win games, even if it is just the preseason.

Who to watch: Defense is going to be the focal point of the season, and goalie and team captain Kevin Peat has the chance to lead the Aggies from goal.

Who to watch: It’s early in the season, but already Allison Kelly has shown that she is a presence on the soccer pitch.

The Sacramento State women’s soccer team was chosen to finish second in the Big Sky Conference this season while the Aggies were picked to finish ninth in the Big West Conference. UC Davis refused to let that bother it as the Aggies opened up their 2010 campaign with a 1-0 win over rival Sacramento State.
