Football Former UC Davis defensive tackle John Faletoese has agreed to a free-agent contract with the Buffalo Bills while offensive guard Jonathan Compas has done the same with the Oakland Raiders. Both players earned All-America and All-Great West Conference honors for the Aggies during the2008season while also serving as team captains.

A combination of a lack of both hitting and clutch pitching was UC Davis‘ undoing this weekend,as it saw its opponent come back in four out of five games to hand the Aggies a0-5record over the weekend.

For the second weekend in a row,the UC Davis baseball team faced off against nationally ranked Big West Conference competition. For the second weekend in a row,the Aggies left play on the wrong side of a three-game sweep.

The first Big West Conference Tournament didn’t turn out like the Aggies would have hoped. Due to a coin flip placement,No.9UC Davis had to matchup with No.10UC Irvine in the semifinal game – a team that gave the Aggies their only Big West loss during the regular season.

In November of 2002, the UC Davis student body voted in favor of increasing student fees to help its athletics program move to the Big West Conference and the Division I ranks. It paid off last week.

UC Davis distance runners shined at Friday night’s New York Road Runners Distance Carnival portion of California’s Brutus Hamilton Invitational. Headlining their performances was junior Russ Pfaff’s second-place finish in the steeplechase (8:48.81),which easily qualified him for regionals.Additionally,that time puts him second all-time at UC Davis,No.2in the West Region and No.9in the nation.

With the season nearing its end,the Aggies came out firing at the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Tournament in Palo Alto,Calif. The Aggies entered the tournament as the No.5seed,where they’d face heavily favored No.4Denver.

There’s a phrase that most rowing coaches use to warn their team:Don’trun out of water.The warning serves to remind rowers that in the end – even if they’re on the stronger team – the first team to cross the line is still the winner. Unfortunately for UC Davis this weekend,it ran out of water on Saturday.

Senior Sirena Williams continued her record-breaking season in the100m hurdles on Saturday,as she clockeda13.79to break her week-old record of13.83. She finished sixth in the elite section,which was won by Olympicsilver medalist Hyleas Fountain.
