For graduating seniors Kayla Koch,Adee Schoffman and Andi Dolinsky,their last home meet was going to beexciting no matter the outcome. A season-high score in front of a huge home crowd,many gymnastics alumni in the stands and the Cal Aggie Band-uh! made the afternoon even more memorable.
Women’s rowing sweeps regatta

The UC Davis women’s rowing team started its2009season off on the right foot,going five-for-five at the Davis Invitational Rowing Tournament at the Port of Sacramento on Sunday. The Aggies defeated the likes of Santa Clara,Sonoma State and Cal Maritime Academy on the day.
Mix of youth, experience helps Aggies to three wins in weekend play

UC Davis used both its experience and young talent to give itself three victories over the weekend at the Aggie Shootout. The Aggies‘ youth led their team to a Saturday sweep with sophomore Dakotah Mohr contributing six goals on the day while freshman Kaylee Miller added five.

The UC Davis baseball team didn’t have any wins to show for it,but it flew back from Portland,Ore.on Sundaywith its offensebackon track. After a slow start to the season,the Aggies had12hits in Game1of Saturday’s double header and10more in Game2.It was the first time all season they had strung together consecutive double-digit hitting efforts.

The UC Davis men’s basketball team is four wins from finding its way into your March Madness bracket. With the regular season in the books,the Aggies head to the Anaheim Convention Center for their first-ever appearance in the Big West Conference Tournament.If they can win the conference crown,they’ll punch an automatic ticket to the Big Dance:the64-team basketball palooza known as the NCAA Tournament.

UC Davis needed to beat Cal State Northridge to clinch the No.5seed in this week’s Big West Conference Tournament. The Aggies did exactly that,using great work on the boards and two clutch free throws to narrowly beat Northridge at the Matadome on Wednesday night,53-50.

Sophomore Ashley Hearn highlighted the Aggies‘ performance at an unscored,five-way meet in Berkeley,as she earned a trip to the West Regional Championships in her discus season debut. Hearn threw a huge personal best of47.48m on her very first throw of the competition.Not only did she win by over four meters,but her other legal throw would havealsoeasily netted her the win.

The UC Davis swimming and diving team was in the news again this week, as it picked up three of the Big West Conference’s six major awards. Juniors Heidi Kucera and Scott Weltz were named women’s and men’s athlete of the year, respectively, while Pete Motekaitis walked away as men’s coach of the year.
