Quincy Amarikwa has experienced a lot in his four years at UC Davis. When Amarikwa first came to the school,the Aggies were a Division II program.Now,they’re one of the top teams in the country – and Amarikwa has become one of the most dangerous scorers in the nation in the process. After learning of his team’s bid to the NCAA Tournament,Amarikwa sat down with Aggie Staff Writer Max Rosenblum to discuss the tournament selection,his team’s offensive success and his first-born child.

The UC Davis men’s basketball team is knocking on the door. Last weekend at the World Vision Classic,the Aggies went on the road and built a lead of14points or more in the second half of each of its three season-opening games.

The No.12UC Davis men’s soccer team showed up at the Davis Graduate Monday afternoon to learn its NCAA Tournament fate. The Aggies expected either a first-round bye orhome playoff match at Aggie Soccer Stadium on Saturday. They got exactly what they wanted,earning a home date with Denver on Saturday at1p.m.

This time last season,Sule Anibaba was in tears,as the UC Davis men’s soccer team had just been selected for the NCAA Tournament in its first Division I season. “That was one of the best feelings I’ve ever had,” Anibaba said. “We didn’t really know whatwas going to happen.… Hearing our name on ESPNews – I just remember crying.“

Jerry Rice can credit Ramses Barden for lowering his name on the NCAA record book. Barden can credit his team’s running game and second-half defense for making it matter.

Redshirt freshman Kevin Peat wants to leave UC Davis as the school’s all-time saves leader. After Saturday’s impressive showing against No.16Santa Clara,he’s that much closer to reaching his goal.

Racing against2008Olympic10,000m runner Galen Rupp and a plethora of All-Americans from all over the West,the Aggies were able to place a respectable11th at the NCAA Western Regional Championships. “We’ve been11th two years in a row,” said head coach Drew Wartenburg. “Eleventh this year was probably a taller order; it was probably a better accomplishment than getting11th last year.There was a lot more depth at the top of the field.“

A young UC Davis squad comprised of seven freshmen faced its first regular season test of the2008-2009campaign as it traveled to Southern Utah on Friday night. The Aggies answered the call.

The Aggies entered the weekend with a shot at salvaging a.500home record. But that wasn’tquitewhat happened.

Racing against some of the best competitors in the nation,the Aggies placed an impressivesixth place at the Western Regional Championships. And on Nov.24,seniors Kim Conley and Kaitlin Gregg will be able to race the rest of the best as they compete at the NCAA National Championships in Terre Haute,Ind.
