On Friday, the Davis Food Co-op, located at 620 G Street, held their second annual Eat Local Fair. The Co-op hosted what they called “a parking lot party” to celebrate food providers within 100 miles of Davis.

UC Davis is moving ahead with its plans for a new student, faculty and staff neighborhood on campus.

The Davis Police Department (DPD) arrested 25-year-old Peter Lloyd Zuniga after he beat a Quick Shop Market clerk last Saturday around 7:40 a.m., according to a press release. The suspect, and Davis resident, entered the 1964 East Eighth St. store asking for matches. When a female clerk told him the store didn’t carry matches, he stole two lighters and left. The suspect returned 10 minutes later and beat the clerk and kicked her in the head while she was on the ground.

North Davis experienced a wide spread power outage early Saturday morning after a Woodland driver apparently lost control of his 2002 Dodge Durango. His car overturned and landed on its roof on the east side of F Street, according to Sgt. John Wilson of the Davis Police Department.

The California State Senate passed a bill that increases the fines for drivers and motorists using handheld cell phones or texting while driving. Senate Bill 28, passed on Aug. 15, was proposed by Sen. Joe Simitian (D- Palo Alto) and would add a point against a person’s driver’s license for subsequent offenses.
