As I’m nearing graduation (less than a month away! Eeek!) I find myself looking back at my past four years at Davis and reflecting on what I’ve learned. One thing I wish I’d known about sooner is the HR Black Hole, where resumes go to die.

In past years, ASUCD budget hearings have been long and disorganized, and it was clear senators were not familiar with the budget. However, this year, budget hearings ran smoothly and the budget itself was reasonable.

The state of California is in deep fiscal trouble, and cuts will have to be made across the board. One sector that will see its state funding go down is higher education.

As our state goes through yet another incarnation of budget hell, Californians of all walks of life continue to suffer.

Not long ago, several student-teachers at the UC Davis School of Education came together to found an organization dedicated to improving the schools of the poorer countries of the world.

There are times I’d like to simply drive 300 miles without stopping, but due to climbing gas prices, such vagabondry would be foolish and excessive. Instead, I settle for the drive down 80 West to the East Bay.

I know that, from a few slight implications here and there, it may seem like I’m a wake-up-in-the-gutter type drug user. In fact I am not, and I’ll use this week’s column to set the record straight. As it turns out, I use mostly legal drugs and have near-perfect grades (thank you Adderall!).

Normally, if you need a bike store, there is only one place in most towns that can help you out. Davis lacks quite a few things, but one thing it has in quantity is bicycle stores – a specific one that fits the consumer – which is you.

On Monday I found myself jamming to “Pomp and Circumstance” on repeat as I eagerly anticipated the arrival of my older sister in a queue of gown-wearing, accomplished undergraduates.

Andy is so fickle, Madeline is such a big slut and you’re so curious. Just who are Andy and Madeline? It doesn’t matter, but you probably want to know anyways. It seems that discussions like this drive our society – talk about other people, gossip. People love hearing about other people. Take a look at the landscape of television; it’s littered with reality shows. Hell, look at Facebook! ‘Nuff said.

In January, my favorite news anchor, Brian Williams, reported that “Federal Regulators (the FCC) approved the purchase by Comcast of a majority stake in NBC Universal from General Electric. This merger will create a $30 billion media company with cable, broadcast, internet, motion picture and theme park components.” Now I’ve never been savvy in the business world, so I didn’t particularly care who Comcast chose to buy or sell, just as long as I could continue paying them $40.95 a month to watch all my TV on Hulu instead.
