I know last Thursday must have been miserable for you. A day spent weeping over pumpkin pies and drowning sorrows in gravy and stuffing. Well, my friends, wipe those tears away. Lo and behold, today I have a brand new story for your reading pleasure.

A strong contender for this week’s column was the ultimate fictional holiday showdown between Seinfeld’s Festivus, the holiday for the rest of us, and the O.C.’s Chrismukkah, the pairing of Jesus and Moses, the superteam. Both are solid holidays, both created by television geniuses of equal measure, Frank Costanza and Seth Cohen.

It’s Friday night, and though Dave and I are the only full Asians in the room, we are the only ones with our shoes still on. The wall facing the street is made almost entirely of glass, and though anyone passing by in the street can see us clearly beneath the Christmas lights hanging over us, we can barely see each other – me and my Guiness, him and his PBR.

I hope you enjoyed your long weekends of visiting with Grandma, eating loads of pie and falling asleep at the dinner table – thanks tryptophan! Now it’s back to the books for the next two weeks in hopes of passing with flying colors. I know you can do it! Maybe I’ll even see you in the library.

So mashed potatoes were eaten, wine was drunk, turkeys were stuffed and, come to think of it, so were the people that ate them. Yes, another Thanksgiving has come and gone. And thus, the Christmas season has officially begun.

In response to a 32 percent fee increase for students at the University of California, there have been numerous demonstrations decrying what students see as mismanagement by the UC Board of Regents and the state of California. While it is certainly the right of all students to protest, it is important to do so with respect and tact. Otherwise, the spectacle can simply detract from the message.

The Department of Student Housing recently announced its decision to close one of the three cooperative student homes on campus, citing financial problems as the motivating factor. Unfortunately, it appears as though Student Housing has done relatively little to prevent the closure.

I don’t care what you say. Persian parents have no idea how to celebrate American holidays.

It’s the week before finals and all through the school – just kidding.

Our challenge, our future

The autumn winds of discontent are blowing through California. The student protests that occurred on UC campuses will undoubtedly continue into the foreseeable future. Unfortunately, the state’s budget problems haven’t been solved yet, despite the passion from protestors.

Welcome back, loves. Hope you all had a wonderful break. For some of you, the break meant heading back to your hometowns for some much needed family time. For others, it meant stuffing your faces with a silo’s worth of food. For me, however, the break meant a long weekend away from my boyfriend Arthur. Since I’m so used to sleeping in the same full-size bed with him every night, you can imagine how difficult it was for me to endure a twin-size mattress alone.
