At 1:30 a.m., the phone starts ringing at 219 G St. in downtown Davis.

The first call comes from a study group pulling an all-nighter, ordering the Student Special: 15 percent off any extra-large pizza with one or more toppings.

Seconds later, the phone rings again. This time, it’s a group of freshman roommates, asking for the Residence Hall Delivery Deal: one large one-topping pizza for $12.99 plus tax.

In the late hours of the evening, Woodstock’s Pizza is there, serving and delivering what has been voted The Best of Davis four years and counting.

“We’ll get a rush of calls in the last half hour of business because students are up late partying or studying, said Dee Clark, general manager at the Davis location, which opens at 11 a.m. every day and closes at 2 a.m. on Thursdays through Saturdays. We’re there for those late-night munchies.

Along with the convenience of its service, Woodstock’s takes pride in the quality of its pizza. The dough is made fresh every morning on site, the sauce is flavorful and spicy, and toppings are generous in quantity.

But it’s not just about the pizza.

Woodstock’s takes pride in creating a fun atmosphere. From Karaoke Wednesdays to Trivia Thursdays to various pint nights (all specials listed at woodstocksdavis.com), there is always something going on at the pizzeria.

As for Woodstock’s amenities, there are 12 taps, eight televisions, various arcade games, and, with presentation of an ID card, free privileges to a foosball table, dice, cards and board games.

Village Bakery is a hole-in-the-wall establishment prized for the freshness and quality of its bread. Steve’s Pizza is a popular choice on Tuesdays when it offers a buy one, get one free on all large pizzas beginning at 5 p.m.
