Just before 2010 summer practices began for UC Davis football, redshirted freshman Randy Wright was thrown into the fire.
Taking the reigns at quarterback, Wright became the first freshman in a decade to start under center for UC Davis, making his collegiate debut at California.
The Great West Conference Rookie of the Year finished the season with 2,432 total yards, 17 touchdowns and just eight interceptions.
The Aggies’ dramatic 22-21 comeback win at Cal Poly in November highlighted Wright’s offensive effort, as he threw for 302 yards and two touchdowns.
One week earlier, Wright threw 286 passing yards at North Dakota, throwing for at least 260 yards in three other games.
On two occasions, Wright was named Great West Offensive Player of the Week.
For his impressive rookie campaign, The California Aggie names Randy Wright the Male Freshman Athlete of the Quarter.
