UC President Mark Yudof visited the UC Davis campus in October to taste-test different olive oils for his own signature blend, amongst other important president-things, of course.
The President’s Blend was unveiled on Dec. 13, just in time for the holidays. The quarter-liter bottles are available in the campus bookstore for $12 apiece.
Yudof chose a blend of Arbequina olives, which are Spanish, and Italian varietals like Frantoio and Leccino olives.
“It’s got fresh flavor with some ripe elements, and there’s some grassiness and a buttery note as well,” said Dan Flynn, executive director of the UC Davis Olive Center.
The President’s Blend should be available at other UC campus bookstores soon, Flynn said. Through this blend, the self-funded Olive Center will broaden its financial base to all of the UC and be able to continue its research.
