Sandra Adelin Garcia-Velazquez, a junior undeclared life sciences major, passed away after a car accident on Sunday shortly after 4 a.m. She was 21 years old.
Witnesses told police that Garcia-Velazquez was headed east on West Eighth Street from Anderson Road. A half-mile from a party she had left, her Volkswagen Jetta veered across the oncoming lane of traffic, hit a tree and then crashed into a house on Miller Drive. No one inside the home was injured.
Garcia-Velazquez, however, was found unresponsive at the crash-site and pronounced dead shortly thereafter.
Lt. Paul Doroshov of the Davis Police Department told The Sacramento Bee that an investigation team is still looking into the exact cause of the accident.
Doroshov said the Davis police expect more information at the end of this week.
Beginning today, the campus flag will be lowered for three days in recognition of Garcia-Velazquez.
