CD review: Tapes n’ Tapes

Artist: Tapes n’ Tapes

Album: Outside

Label: Ibid Records

Rating: 4

Tapes n’ Tapes was formed in the cold boundaries of Minnesota in 2003. Consequently, they recorded their first album in the numbingly freezing Wisconsin woods. And now with a new album released, entitled Outside, it seems as though Tapes n’ Tapes has a lot of winter love.

Like their previous albums, Tapes n’ Tapes has kept many of the essential elements of their sound, such as upbeat melodies and bouncing guitars. However, Outside has a much more polished sound that differs from their debut album, The Loon. Crisp guitar riffs in “Mighty Long” adds a fun hum-along tune while a slower track, “People You Know” is a light tune perfect for painting inside on cold winter nights.

Give these tracks a listen: “Nightfall,” “Freak Out” and “People You Know”

For fans of: White Rabbits, Wolf Parade and Sunset Rubdown
