Aggie Digest

Women’s Tennis

The UC Davis women’s tennis team played three dual matches over the weekend, winning two and dropping the other.

On Wednesday, the Aggies were swept 7-0 to the top team in the nation, Stanford.

No match went longer than two sets as the Cardinal boast four players in the top 100 nationally.

On Saturday, UC Davis took a 6-1 victory over Portland on the road. All but one of the seven matches were decided in more than two sets. Dahra Zamudio, Megan Heneghan and Kelly Chui each picked up key victories over the hosting Pilots.

On Sunday, UC Davis won again 6-1, this time over Portland State. The pairs of Ellie Edles/Lauren Curry and Chui/Melissa Kobayakawa each picked up doubles victories to open up the event.

After the weekend matches, the Aggies moved to 3-2 on the season. UC Davis will be back in action next week, when they travel to face San Francisco on Saturday, Feb. 5 at 12 p.m.

Track and Field

The women’s track and field team traveled to the University of Washington to take part in the UW invitational at Dempey Indoor.

The event was highlighted by Chidinma Onyewuenyi’s school record performance in the shot put. Onyewuenyi had a mark of 48 feet, 1.75 inches in the event, breaking her previous mark of 45-8.50 from last season.

Leslie Reed also performed well, posting a pair of top-five all-time UC Davis marks in the sprints competitions. Reed finished 12th in the 200 with a time of 25.50.

The Aggies will return to Seattle in two weeks for the Husky Indoor Invitational.
