Police have determined that Sandra Adelin Garcia-Velazquez, who passed away after a car crash on Jan. 9, was driving with a blood-alcohol content of .16 – double the California legal limit of .08.
Garcia-Velazquez, junior undeclared life sciences major, was headed east on West Eighth Street from Anderson Road when she lost control of the car. She hit a tree and then crashed into a house on Miller Drive. The resident, 91-year-old Julia Sadler, was not injured.
Lt. Paul Doroshov said that police are still considering speed as a factor in the accident, but the case will probably be closed soon.
“As far as we know, it’s a solo car crash,” he said. “No one else to blame. So all that’s left to do is to get all the facts and conclude the investigation.”
