Consignment store folds after short stay downtown

Jacksonfly has flown the coop, so to speak. The consignment store that opened downtown behind Newsbeat and Peet’s Coffee in October, closed its doors on Jan. 31 because they couldn’t pay rent.

Justin Jackson, the store’s owner, said he is looking for another location for the store. The inventory is currently in storage.

The dress shop Suite E, which was formerly located at 213 E St., is replacing Jacksonfly. The store is officially opening tomorrow.

Suite E owner and UC Davis alum Michelle Fisher said their new rent will be $500 a month for the first three months, then increased by $200 each month up until the rent reaches $2500.

“It’s really just about conversations [with property owners],” Fisher said. “It’s not easy running a business here. We almost closed in January, but if you ask good questions, you’re going have a successful business.”

There are currently two properties available on B Street, eight on E Street, three on F Street, 10 on G Street, four on Second Street and various others throughout downtown.
