Women’s Lacrosse Preview

Teams: UC Davis vs. Fresno State

Records: Aggies 0-1; Bulldogs 0-0

Where: Aggie Stadium

When: Saturday at 1 p.m.

Who to watch: Senior Christina Corsa is primed for a big game this weekend.

The Danville, Calif. native tallied three goals and one assist in last year’s matchup with the Bulldogs.

Corsa also scored one goal on seven shots and added an assist in the Aggies season opener against California last week.

Did you know? The Bulldogs are 0-28 since their lacrosse team first took the field in 2009.

Additionally, UC Davis has outscored Fresno State 32-4 in the teams’ two meetings, including a 17-1 victory last season, when the Aggies outshot the Bulldogs 33-6.

Preview: This week, the Aggies will have another chance to evaluate their two goalkeepers.

In Sunday’s against the Golden Bears, each of the Aggies’ net-minders got a full half of playing time.

Senior Kjersten Nordmeyer started the game for UC Davis, allowing five goals without tallying a save before being replaced at the break.

From there, freshman Jordan Majka finished the match, conceding 10 goals and recording three saves before being saddled with the loss.

“It’s interesting with one senior goalie and one freshman goalie,” said coach Elaine Jones. “They each bring different styles of play for us.”

Majka was one of four Aggie freshmen to take the field in last week’s season opener.

Meghan Jones led the UC Davis freshmen, scoring a goal and adding an assist in a starting role.

If the freshmen continue to play well, they will have spots on the team. Jones said if the freshmen can step up, they’ll find playing time.

UC Davis will need a win this week to keep pace with its conference opponents as it heads into a stretch of 10 straight non-conference matches.

After Saturday, the Aggies will not play another Mountain Pacific Sports Federation game until they face Saint Mary’s on April 6.
