As part of its venture into the world of breakfast, Ali Baba will serve breakfast items without charge between from 8 a.m. andto 11 a.m. next Tuesday.
Starting today, Ali Baba will serve breakfast at 8 a.m. on weekdays and 10 a.m. on weekends. New items include a breakfast burrito for $4.99, a bagel for $1.85 and a bacon and egg sandwich for $5.15. Owner Ali Moghaddam modeled the sandwich after similar ones at Nugget Markets and Bongo Burger in Berkeley.
Moghaddam – who has already begun serving coffee to his patrons – said today’s opening will allow time for his cooks to accustom themselves to the new items, in preparation for the restaurant’s official breakfast opening on March 1.
“Besides the fact that nobody on this block sells breakfast, you need a breakfast spot near campus,” Moghaddam said. “Honestly, breakfast is my favorite meal of the day, and I kind of get discouraged because there aren’t that many places that fill you up for a cheap breakfast price.”
Ali Baba recently added a new mural on its west wall, in addition to new signage that advertises breakfast.
Other restaurants that offer breakfast nearby campus include Ciocolat, Delta of Venus and Black Bear Diner. Third and U Café recently added an all-you-can-eat breakfast buffet on weekends for $8.49.
