News in brief: Student found dead in dorm room

UC Davis police found the body of Alexander Nelson Goldschneider in his dorm room on Tuesday.

Yolo County Chief Deputy Coroner Robert LaBrash performed an autopsy Wednesday and said the cause of death is still pending investigation.

“There was no indication of foul play or trauma,” he said.

Police will proceed with toxicological studies. LaBrash said he hopes to have a better idea of the cause of death in four to six weeks.

Goldschneider was a 21-year-old junior transfer student from Auburn, Calif. majoring in human development. According to his Facebook page, he was part of the Telemark Dance Troupe, a student group on campus that performs various types of ballroom and social dancing. He had his own bedroom in Castilian Hall North, in a shared suite with two other bedrooms and a common room.

Police found his body after Goldschneider’s parents reported concern over not hearing from their son in three to four days, said Andy Fell, spokesperson for UC Davis.
