Environmental Protection Agency funds UC Davis research for air quality

As increasing numbers of people turn to alternative fuel vehicles, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is funding a $900,000 research project at UC Davis to study the effects of alternative fuel emissions on the changing climate.

Michael Kleeman, the project's lead researcher and professor of civil and environmental engineering, will measure how particles emitted from vehicles powered by gas, ethanol, diesel and bio-diesel change in response to changes in the climate.

UC study shows SATs do not predict college success

For nearly 100 years, the SAT has been used by universities in their admissions process, but a new report out of the Center for Studies in Higher Education at UC Berkeley argues that the SAT is an inferior predictor of student success in college.

Solar Taxi makes a stop in Davis

Swiss adventurer and schoolteacher Louis Palmer made a stop in Davis on Saturday on his trip around the world to showcase his exclusively solar-powered vehicle, the Solar Taxi. He began his trip July 3 in Lucerne, Switzerland and has traveled 22,000 miles through Europe, Asia and North America.

In the July 10 issue of The California Aggie, the article "UC opposes bill to protect journalism advisers" stated that the University of California expressed its opposition to Senate Bill 1370. The article should have stated that the UC Office of the President opposes the bill, not the entire UC system. The Aggie regrets the error.

UC Davis Health Center declares smoke-free zone

As drivers put down their cell phones July 1, the UC Davis Health Center began implementing a new rule of its own by declaring a smoke-free environment for its Sacramento campus.

A kickoff event took place on the campus to declare the 140-acre site a nonsmoking zone. The health center provided resources for those who want to quit smoking as well as free nicotine gum.

ASUCD Coffee House raises prices

Junior chemistry major Gary Arevalo noticed last week that he received less change from the $2 he paid for a slice of cheese pizza at the ASUCD Coffee House.

"A slice of cheese pizza is usually $1.75 but it's gone up since school ended," said Arevalo.
