BeingPCisOverrated,
You obviously don’t understand the extent to which her article was indeed offensive to communities of all sorts. She offends people in the queer community by perpetuating her heternormative, heterosexist views which conflict with the very values of queer culture and how we try to divide the gender binary. We also try to deconstruct gender norms, and genderstereotypes.

Am I the only one who understands what she was driving toward? The community is severely overreacting as she notes that the “girly” men she refers to are straight so how does this offend the gay community? Frankly I was envisioning the creeps from shows like Jersey Shore who ought to be castrated because they are useless both intellectually and on a basic evolutionary level as males.
To Lauren, I really don’t think that Tiffany has learned her lesson. This is the girl who posted on her facebook status that she is amazed that everyone is getting such a reaction out of her column and sending her hate mail and claims that everyone ‘doesn’t have a sense of humor’. Personally, I highly doubt if she even thinks she is wrong and if she even learned a lesson. I agree with the fact that it may be extreme for her to be fired or for her to resign, but at the same time, she really should look into her own life instead of blaming and pinpointing it on everyone else. It isn’t just a mistake she made, she has ignored everyone’s opinion and has incredulously thought of herself in the clear. She has made it to clear to everyone…from her reaction online to even in public, when people have overheard her complaining and whining about how she has done nothing wrong, that she personally has thought that she has done nothing wrong. How is it that we can take a look at this and ignore the fact that she has learned nothing and may again do something that can hurt the community again?
Tiffany retracted her column out of respect for the people she unintentionally offended. Posting a column that she is clearly ashamed of on every one of her other columns is intentionally hurtful. It crosses the line between bringing awareness to an issue and personally attacking someone based on a mistake that person made. Plus it preserves a message that I presume you don’t agree with. It’s counterintuitive if not unkind.
To “questions”, perhaps appreciate that Tiffany learned her lesson and give her a chance to move on. Something positive and productive will probably come out of this if she feels she is in a safe enough place to present her view.
Thank you for removing this article. I’m glad The Aggie actually listens to its readers.
Just a note — comments that include copyrighted material will be removed.
I’m Jeremy Ogul, the Aggie’s managing editor for new media. Our commenting system is very new and is not yet fully functional. In order to delete the article that was retracted, we had to delete all the comments that were attached to it as well. In the near future we will be capable of being more precise with preserving and moderating comments — it’s a technical glitch, nothing more.
I’m just wondering why the Aggie felt it needed to delete every single comment posted on this article? Was it afraid that its reputation would get tarnished? Because if that is the case than they must really be out of touch…
And I wish Ms. Lew would stop referring to everyone who emailed her as “hate” mail. The only thing hateful were her words, not the rightful criticism she deserves.
I don’t know that formal action needs to be taken, but I think it imperative that the Aggie, namely its Editor-in-Chief, undergo some sincere cultural sensitivity training. This is serious and important, especially if he plans to continue being the one to approve and not of articles being submitted and printed.
I would like to ask what action was taken against Lew? I have read her previous columns and this sentiment has been woven throughout a few of them – please read her column on twilight fans. Her girlyman argument seems to pup up here as well… I like the rest of the community would like to know what is being done, not only for Tiffany but also to the editor who let this through?
