Letter to the Editor: Column overlooked Israel’s faults

Rob Olson’s April 5 column “The Israel Question” touched on some interesting points. Yes, dialogue and context is necessary in any situation. Yes, both Palestinians and Israelis have their faults. But there are certain facts that can not and should not just be pushed under the rug. College students may be liberal thinkers, but giving gays and women rights does not cover up the fact that Israelis are stealing land from those who were there before them and putting Palestinians through the humiliation and torture of check points, arrests, and limited rights. College students should be discussing how the world has allowed Israel to carry on in such a manner. Why does the U.S. send over $8.2 million dollars of military aid per day to Israel when right in our backyard, education at all levels is suffering and we have yet to recover from the housing crisis? We should be discussing how the world’s hegemonic power, that which prides itself on equality, liberty, and freedom for all, can support a nation that segregates people based on race, down to the license plates on the cars and the roads they can travel on. Israel puts on a good front, but their true intentions are to continue building scattered and expanding settlements, despite the United Nations condemning them, making the goal of a Palestinian state ever more difficult to reach.

  1. Finally Ignorantblip keeps calling me names, like Islamophobe. I keep telling her she is complimenting me but this does not seem to get through her thich skull.

Here is another article explaining why being called an Islamophobe is a GOOD thing. Let me know if you’re still having trouble comprehending this simple concept. I have loads of articles on file to answer all your fallacious accusations and claims.

  2. #2)

    Other religions violent too?

    The Muslim Game:

Bringing other religions down to the level of Islam is one of the most popular strategies of Muslim apologists when confronted with the spectacle of Islamic violence. Remember Timothy McVeigh, the Oklahoma City bomber? Why pick on Islam if other religions have the same problems?

    The Truth:

    Because they don’t.

Regardless of what his birth certificate may or may not have said, Timothy McVeigh was not a religious man (in fact, he stated explicitly that he was agnostic). At no time did he credit his deeds to religion, quote Bible verses, or claim that he killed for Jesus. His motives are very well documented through interviews and research. God is never mentioned.

The so-called “members of other faiths” alluded to by Muslims are nearly always just nominal members who have no active involvement. They are neither inspired by, nor do they credit religion as Muslim terrorists do – and this is what makes it a very different matter.

Islam is associated with Islamic terrorism because that is the association that the terrorists themselves choose to make.

Muslims who compare crime committed by people who happen to be nominal members of other religions to religious terror committed explicitly in the name of Islam are comparing apples to oranges.

Yes, some of the abortion clinic bombers were religious (as Muslims enjoy pointing out), but consider the scope of the problem. There have been six deadly attacks over a 36 year period in the U.S. Eight people died. This is an average of one death every 4.5 years.

By contrast, Islamic terrorists staged nearly ten thousand deadly attacks in just the six years following September 11th, 2001. If one goes back to 1971, when Muslim armies in Bangladesh began the mass slaughter of Hindus, through the years of Jihad in the Sudan, Kashmir and Algeria, and the present-day Sunni-Shia violence in Iraq, the number of innocents killed in the name of Islam probably exceeds five million over this same period.

In the last six years, there have been perhaps a dozen or so religiously-inspired killings by people of all other faiths combined. No other religion produces the killing sprees that Islam does nearly every day of the year. Neither do they have verses in their holy texts that arguably support it. Nor do they have large groups across the globe dedicated to the mass murder of people who worship a different god, as the broader community of believers struggles with ambivalence and tolerance for a radical clergy that supports the terror.

Muslims may like to pretend that other religions are just as subject to “misinterpretation” as is their “perfect” one, but the reality speaks of something far worse.

  3. Ignorantblip claims I do not respond to her points. I dunno. Maybe the problem is she can’t read. Anywho she brought up the Crusades and other religion’s violent history, so let me respond to that point. I will do so in two posts.

  4. btw youve still yet to acknowledge any of the points ANYONE has brought up. obviously, because you can’t respond to any real facts.

  5. BTW to save you trouble, dont quote any war quotes from the Quran unless you put it in context, I can do the same for any religious scripture and its getting old. All scholars of Islam who arent even Muslim put the Quran in context, so do so, please, if not, I’m saving you a post! but srsly you sound like a nazi who doesnt like Muslims, just like the nazis who found everything wrong with the jews, its sickening. and quite sad. Regardless, this shouldnt be about religion, its about Two people and Land, arguing about Israel is not arguing with Judaism, so please dont make this a bash on Islam. but whatever go ahead and give me another hateful post! nothing I havent read or heard before

  6. LOL your links are hilarious, wth. youre quoting people, not the religion, stop and study the religion, not people who speak for it like Gadafi of all ppl LOL omg so sad :/

  7. I think you’ve forgotten about the crusades and the inquisition and many more conquests other religions did, and killed in the name of their religion. btw I dont think Muslims were involved in the holocaust buddy, that was Christianity, and Muslims in Iran and other countries took in Jews at that time to save them, learn your history, not hate.

I’m just a simple American college student, I don’t know about all the hate youre talking about. I live for peace and justice. I don’t want anything but a life where I can live without prejudice against me. Islamophobia is no better than Anti-semitism, yet you think its ok? its sad. I don’t live in your hate filled and scared world, where you think every muslims out to get you and everyone, I live in a simple world where I think we can all live pretty peacefully, and theres a billion other people who think that way.

btw, If you even know the history or about Islam, umm, you’d know we consider Jews of that time to be on the right path, right? Like, Jews were the muslims of the time, then Jesus came to say “keep on your right path” and the he was the messiah, and then the jews were waiting for their final prophet, some accepted him as Mohammad but some didnt because they said he must be a Jew and nothing more. but yeah to us, Islam is the perfected of the prior religions (which were and are actually one) Not sure how you have read it or studied it, but im just telling you what all the Muslims believe. lets have a normal dialogue please, put away the Islamophobic stuff. you seem paranoid :/

  8. What’s mine is mine what’s theirs is mind too.

    This is the Islamic way.

Islam is a mere baby in the line of world religions. Hinduism is something like 6,000 years older than Islam, and Buddhism is not far behind Hinduism in this regard. Judaism also is longer in the tooth than Islam by some 3,000+ years. And people who we won’t categorize by religion –like the Berbers, Zoroastrians and Animists — have all been around for ages before the militaristic Mohammed was born.

With this in mind let’s think about the sentence above.

Muslims have violently conquered and eliminated every last Buddhist from Afghanistan, so, by Muslim logic Afghanistan belongs to ISALM.

Muslims have violently conquered all of North Africa, in large part from the Berbers, and now, according to Muslims ALL of North Africa is theirs.

Muslim hordes invaded south Asia and killed tens of millions of Hindus, Jains and Buddhists. Today almost all of Pakistan and Bangladesh are devoid of any Hindus, Buddhists and Jains and what is left are Muslims. These lands belong to ISLAM today and, by the way, so does Kashmir according to Muslims.

Increasingly Christians in Malaysia and Indonesia are under pressure to practice their religion in ways that is invisible. Bibles are being confiscated, churches are being burned all by Muslims. Pretty soon these countries will likely belong entirely to Muslims.

Close to 5,000 Buddhists in Southern Thailand have been slaughtered by Muslims because (we are told) that land belongs to Muslims, not Buddhists.

In southern Russia and the Caucus regions Muslims are applying unrelenting pressure on the local populations because, you guessed it, the land rightfully belongs to Muslims.

Throughout the Middle East all Zoroastrians have essentially been eliminated (nice word for genocide) by Muslims. The Christians left in the Middle East are under threat and some people characterize their plight as one of slow and steady genocide. The Middle East, evidently, belongs to Muslims and only Muslims.

That leaves Israel. And even though Jews have lived in Israel continuously for over 3,000 years, and even though Jews have referred to Israel as the “Promised Land” for over 3,000 years (Jerusalem is never mentioned in the Qur’an), and even though Israel is smaller than a pimple on Islam’s caliphate’s ass, this too belongs to Islam.

You see don’t you, everything belongs to Islam and to Muslims. As per Mohammed’s words as recorded in the Qur’an and hadiths all belongs to Islam.

This is, in short, the story of Israel today. Muslims may tell us they want to “co-exist” with Jews, but we all know that’s a crock of sh*t. Muslims want it all. They want the Green Line, they want right of return and eventually they want to push all the Jews into the sea.

That’s what they really want. What’s mine is theirs and what’s theirs is theirs too. It’s the Islamic way.
