Fresh from a performance at the Mondavi Center last week, three members of the New Century Chamber Orchestra will perform a free noon concert in the Music building. Iris Stone, violin, Kurt Rhode, viola, and Joanne Lin, cello, will play works by Mozart and Beethoven.

Sacramento’s post-punk/psychedelic outfit Step Jayne will perform live in KDVS’ Studio A in Lower Freeborn. The acoustics of Studio A are legendary, and notorious KDVS tech Fenris Wulf will engineer the recording. You can listen on KDVS’ website or on the radio.

The San Francisco Opera Grand Cinema Series brings Puccini classic La Rondine to the Mondavi Center’s Jackson Hall, and if you love opera you won’t want to miss it. Soprano Angela Gheoghiu, who has become something of a superstar in the opera world thanks to this role, will star as an older woman who falls for a young man. With beautiful orchestration and stunning vocals, it’s sure to be a spectacular performance.

MFA candidate Karl Frost conceived and directs a truly original work that brings a whole new meaning to the term “audience participation.” The audience is invited to participate in a behavioral experiment and then come onstage and observe the actors’ bodies at work, all while surrounded by an audio and visual installation. Author talk: Elena Mauli Shapiro

UC Davis Bookstore Lounge
Elena Mauli Shapiro, who received her master’s in comparative literature at UC Davis, will discuss her first novel 13, Rue Therese in a one-hour discussion at the Memorial Union bookstore. The novel tells the story of an American professor who moves to Paris and discovers a mysterious box in his office filled with letters, photographs and antique objects. The book was praised by Publishers Weekly as “imaginative” and “sensual.”
