From April 29 to May 1, the UC Davis campus will be reviving with green spirit as it hosts the 10th California Student Sustainability Coalition Spring Convergence.
The event will be free for all UC Davis students who register in advance online or in person.
This bi-annual conference brings in students from all over the state in order to learn how to make changes to their campuses toward the goal of a sustainable community. People from schools from all over the state will be attending – UCs, California State Universities and community colleges, as well as out-of-state schools, such as Cornell.
“The goal of the event is to bring together students from all over the state so as to learn, empower and celebrate sustainability,” said Hannah Oakes, California Student Sustainability Convergence coordinator and Environmental Policy and Planning commissioner.
The convergence will be fraught with workshops, keynote speakers and a celebration in the end.
Keynote speeches will be held at the Sciences Lecture Hall. Workshops and breakout groups will all be in Giedt as well as at the Domes. The dinner and musical presentation will be hosted at the Putah Creek Lodge. Among the musical acts will be Seamoose and Marlene Marlene.
“So far, 300 people have registered to attend the event, and we would love for more to come,” Oakes said. “We are hoping that Davis students will want to volunteer.”
Donations fund the event. Some of the main donators include Club Finance Commission, Campus Center for the Environment, Outreach Assembly, Environmental Policy & Planning Commission, Davis Student Food Co-op and the Student Farm. The donations come in the form of food, building space or money.
Including all the workshops and speakers, another attraction that could have students’ mouths watering will be complimentary locally grown, farm-fresh meals.
Oakes also said that the event will be zero waste, so people should bring their own plates and utensils.
